Comedy Death-Ray Radio is a podcast hosted by comedian Scott Aukerman. I’ve been listening to it for a few months now, though not quite as long as some other podcasts I listen to regularly. This is likely because CDR (or Comedy Death-Ray for long) can be so wonderfully awkward that the first time I tried listening to it, I was almost immediately turned off. I wish I could remember which episode that was because I’d probably be alright listening to it now, but this is one podcast that might be hard to get into just listening to one at random (it then gets better). The most recent episode is a wonderful example of this with guests (and two of my personal favorite comedians) Tim Heidecker and Neil Hamburger.
The show normally follows the format of a short monologue by Scott, quickly followed by the introduction of that show’s co-host or guest. After some one-on-one time with the co-host, “surprise” “character” “guests” will come onto the show and that’s when the real fun begins. After some more (hilarious) banter between everyone on the show, Scott will introduce a game or two for everyone to play, ranging from Would You Rather… to Guess Who Said It.
If you are a fan of awkward comedy, alternative comedy, grade-A improv, or just funny things, I recommend Comedy Death-Ray Radio!
