Let’s Go O’s!

Update 1: As I’m now realizing, the A’s still have a chance of winning the American League West with the Rangers being one of the two wildcard teams.

Update 2: Good thing I had “Update 1.” The A’s and Rangers are tied for the AL West and play one more game tonight against each other. Come on A’s! As for the O’s, they have to beat the Rays tonight and hope the Red Sox beat the Yankees to force a tiebreaker game on Thursday. For those wondering, this is way more exciting to me than a presidential debate in which I already know who I’m voting for.

Update 3: The A’s ended up beating the Rangers for the AL West, that means the Rangers take on the Orioles in the 1-game wild card playoff. Let’s Go O’s!

Baseball is my sport of choice. The Red Sox are my team of choice. In a couple of days I can’t have both. The Red Sox have long been out of the running for the postseason but I still need a horse in the race. It doesn’t really matter to me who wins the World Series, as long as it isn’t the Yankees, who I hate, and to a lesser extent the Giants, who have won it too recently. But I love a good underdog, so there’s where my picks begin.

For the American League, I’ve seen the Orioles lose for years and would like to see them finally do something. I went to an Orioles game a few years back when they were playing the Rangers. I didn’t have any allegiance to either teams, so I went with the home team. We just kept saying (as if we were locals), “How ’bout ‘dem O’s!” and “They just need some pitching!” We were mocking them, mostly, but now I’m honestly on their side to make it to the World Series.

On the National League side, I have to pick the Washington Nationals. Never having won the World Series before really sways my opinion, that in addition to the Nationals having never even been in the playoffs. I would also love it if the World Series ended up being a team from Maryland versus a team from Washington D.C. That would be a bit of a ratings nightmare but that’s not for me to worry about. I would just enjoy seeing two small market teams duke it out.

In other news, I’m also rooting for the Orioles to overtake the Yankees in the American League East (with two games to go). This will set up the Yankees to play the Athletics in a one game playoff. The Athletics have long been another of my favorite teams to root for so Orioles vs. Athletics would be a worst-case-scenario for me. Yankees vs. Athletics though, let’s go A’s!
